Barys Unable to Break Through Against SKA

In their first home game of February, Barys hosted SKA. Emil Galimov missed the game due to injury, with Kirill Panyukov taking his spot in the lineup. Mason Morelli continues to recover. Adam Scheel started in goal.

Barys delivered a solid first period, forcing the visitors to take three penalties. Their best chance, however, came while shorthanded, when Max Willman was denied by Artemy Pleshkov on a breakaway.

For much of the first half of the second period, the Astana side controlled play in the offensive zone. After failing to capitalize on several prime opportunities, Barys committed two penalties of their own, and those moments proved decisive. First, Matvei Korotkiy converted a penalty shot, and just 25 seconds later Sergei Plotnikov scored on the power play.

In the third period, SKA played smart hockey with the lead, waiting for their opponents’ mistakes. Nikita Dishkovskiy and Nikolai Goldobin capitalized on their chances, and late in the game Kirill Panyukov hit the post. Marat Khairullin added the final goal. Despite firing 36 shots on target, Barys were shut out.

On February 14, Mikhail Kravets’ team will host Lada.
