Barys wrapped up their road trip in Nizhnekamsk.
The visitors had a solid start to the game, but Neftekhimik soon earned two consecutive power plays, one of which proved decisive as Luca Profaca beat Adam Scheel with a close-range shot. The second period featured several scuffles, though neither team managed to generate any scoring.
The final frame was full of action. First, the hosts were awarded a penalty shot while shorthanded, and Andrey Belozyorov converted with confidence. Midway through the period, Semyon Simonov snapped Barys’ scoring drought. The visitors then pulled the goaltender for an extra skater and conceded a third goal into the empty net, scored by Bulat Shafigullin. Still, Barys kept pushing, and with 24 seconds remaining Max Willman cut the deficit to one while playing 6-on-4. In the dying moments, the visitors appeared to score again, but the goal was waved off after officials ruled that Michael Vecchione had played the puck with his foot.
On January 28, Mikhail Kravets’ team will host Admiral in Astana.
