Barys wrapped up their first October road trip with a matchup against Traktor. The Astana coaching staff decided to start the game in Chelyabinsk with the same line combinations that played in the third period in Kazan. Returning from injury, Tamirlan Gaitamirov made his season debut, listed as the seventh defenseman.
Barys got off to a strong start. In one sequence, Ansar Shaikhmeddenov and Dinmukhamed Kaiyrzhan — who was playing his 150th KHL game — did a great job battling in the neutral zone, allowing Maksim Mukhametov to find himself in a good shooting position. Moments later, he scored his first goal of the season with a quick wrist shot through a defender.
Traktor then had a five-minute power play after Mason Morelli’s major penalty, but Barys’ penalty kill held firm, and the score remained unchanged going into the break.
At even strength, Traktor managed to turn the tide. Andrei Svetlakov tied the game with a spinning shot, and in the final minute of the period, Alexander Kadeykin gave the home team the lead. In between those goals, Semyon Simonov struck on the power play to restore Barys’ advantage for a moment.
The third period went scoreless, sending the game into overtime. There, Mikhail Grigorenko secured the win for Traktor with the game-winner.
On October 12, Mikhail Kravets’ team will host Nizhny Novgorod’s Torpedo at home.
