Barys Falls to Sibir in Shootout

In their first road game of October, Barys faced Sibir in Novosibirsk. The coaching staff of the Astana team made significant changes to nearly all line combinations — partly due to the return of Roman Starchenko and Ivan Nikolishin, both making their season debuts in the top line. Notably, Barys’ number 48 became the sixth player to participate in all 18 KHL seasons. Andrey Shutov started in goal.

In the opening period, both sides created a few dangerous chances, but the goalies were the main stars. At one point, Barys was saved by the post after a shot from Nikita Soshnikov. In the second period, Barys held the initiative and mounted several solid offensive plays, yet the scoreboard remained unchanged heading into the final frame. Neither team scored in the third period or overtime, and in the shootout, the home side proved more accurate.

On October 7, Mikhail Kravets’s team will face Ak Bars in Kazan.
