Before the Game: Barys vs. Avtomobilist

The third opponent of Barys in the current home series will be Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg.

In their previous outing, Avtomobilist failed to find the back of the net at home against Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (0–2). The hosts registered 24 shots on goal, but none were successful. Goaltender Yevgeny Alikin made 22 saves, while head coach Nikolai Zavarukhin noted that his team spent most of the time battling in the offensive corners, struggling to get to the crease.

Avtomobilist currently sits at 30 points after 24 games. The team’s top scorer is defenseman Jesse Blacker (6 + 12). Goalie Vladimir Galkin is among the league leaders with a 1.95 goals-against average and a 93.8% save percentage. The team’s injury list includes defensemen Nikita Tryamkin and Sergey Zborovsky, as well as forward Semyon Kizimov.

On Wednesday, Barys suffered a narrow 1–2 defeat to Salavat Yulaev. A goal by Dinmukhamed Kaiyrzhan and 34 saves from Andrei Shutov weren’t enough to end the Astana club’s rough stretch. Head coach Mikhail Kravets remarked that once again, unnecessary penalties put his team in a difficult position.

Barys currently holds 19 points, while Riley Walsh (7 + 12) ranks second among all defensemen in scoring across the league.

The game Barys vs. Avtomobilist starts at 19:30 Astana time.
