In their first October matchup, Barys will host the reigning Gagarin Cup champions, Lokomotiv, on home ice.
On Monday, the Yaroslavl side saw their winning streak, which dated back to September 14, snapped in Minsk with a 3–2 shootout loss. Still, that setback didn’t shake Lokomotiv’s position at the top of the Western Conference standings. Against Dinamo, goals came from Artur Kayumov and Nikita Kiryanov, while Daniil Isaev turned aside 37 shots. Head coach Bob Hartley noted the number of penalties taken in the second period but praised his team for rallying back to tie the game.
Lokomotiv currently have 16 points from ten games. Their top scorers, Alexander Radulov (7+4) and Yegor Surin (7+3), rank among the league’s most dangerous forwards early this season. Isaev, with a 1.45 GAA and 94.7 save percentage, is among the KHL’s top three goaltenders. Earlier this week, Lokomotiv also signed a familiar face — forward Richard Pánik.
Barys, meanwhile, blanked Admiral 3–0 in their last outing, a shutout win over the Vladivostok club for the first time in seven years. Newcomer Adam Scheel starred with 26 saves and even picked up an assist. Mason Morelli, Vsevolod Logvin (his first of the season), and Ansar Shaikhmeddenov scored the goals. Michael Vecchione became the first on the team to hit double digits in points (4+6=10). Head coach Mikhail Kravets highlighted discipline — no penalties taken — as the key to victory, keeping all four lines fresh.
Through ten games, the Kazakh team have earned 11 points. Tamerlan Gaitamirov has returned from the injured list.
