Barys will open their extended home stand with a matchup against Torpedo.
After a strong start to the season, the Nizhny Novgorod team has hit a rough patch, suffering four straight losses. In their previous game, Torpedo fell 1–4 to Metallurg in Magnitogorsk. Egor Sokolov scored their only goal, while Denis Kostin made 28 saves. Head coach Alexey Isakov noted that it’s impossible to play “run-and-gun” hockey against Metallurg — his team tried to impose their style but couldn’t execute effectively.
Through 15 games, Torpedo has earned 17 points. Sergey Goncharuk (8+5) leads the team in scoring, while Robert Nardella (1+11) is among the top assist leaders and most productive defensemen in the league.
On Thursday, Barys fell 2–3 in overtime to Traktor in Chelyabinsk. Maxim Mukhametov (his first goal of the season) and Semyon Simonov scored for Astana, while Ivan Nikolishin picked up his first assist since returning to the lineup. Andrey Shutov made 36 saves. Dmitriy Breus (50) and Dinmukhamed Kaiyrzhan (150) both reached KHL career milestones. Head coach Mikhail Kravets said his team matched Traktor in every aspect and even outplayed them at times.
After 14 games, Barys has 13 points. The team’s top scorer remains Michael Vecchione (5+6). Tyce Thompson has been removed from the injured list and may be available for the game against Torpedo. Forward Kirill Panyukov, who recently signed a tryout contract through the end of the month, could also make his debut. Still sidelined are Nikita Boyarkin and Alihan Asetov.
The Barys – Torpedo game starts at 4:30 p.m. Astana time.
