Barys begins its first away series of the new season with a matchup against Metallurg in Magnitogorsk.
Metallurg has earned points in each of its five opening games. In the previous round, Andrei Razin’s team defeated Severstal on the road (5:2). Derek Barach scored twice, while Mikhail Fyodorov, Andrei Kozlov, and Ruslan Iskhakov added one goal apiece. Goaltender Ilya Nabokov stopped 18 shots. The head coach noted that the first 10 minutes belonged to the home side, but afterwards his players managed to turn the game around.
Metallurg currently sits at eight points after five games. The team’s top scorer, Dmitry Silantyev, has collected 7 points (3+4).
The Astana side heads on the road after an emotional home victory over Dynamo Moscow (5:2). Michael Vecchione was involved in four goals (2+2) and was named Player of the Day. Ansar Shaikhmeddenov, Vyacheslav Kolesnikov (his first KHL goal), and Alihan Omirbekov (his first of the season) also found the net. Vladimir Volkov made his KHL debut, while Andrei Shutov recorded 33 saves and an assist. Head coach Mikhail Kravets praised his team’s effort and highlighted the importance of their power-play goals.
After four games, Barys has six points. Vecchione (3+4) ranks among the league’s top scorers at the start of the season. The injured list includes Nikita Boyarkin, Roman Starchenko, Tamirlan Gaitamirov, and Tyce Thompson.
