Barys will wrap up their latest road trip in Nizhnekamsk.
Ahead of their next meeting with the Astana side, Neftekhimik are riding a six-game winning streak. In their previous outing, Igor Grishin’s team defeated Dynamo Moscow at home in a shootout (2:1). Matvey Zaseda scored in regulation, while the decisive shootout attempt was converted by the team’s leading scorer Andrey Belozyorov (23+17). Yaroslav Ozolin turned aside 30 shots on goal. The Nizhnekamsk head coach noted that despite the low scoring, the game was entertaining.
After 49 games, Neftekhimik have collected 55 points. Following the win over Dynamo, the club’s management extended the contract of Damir Zhafyarov through the end of next season. The former Barys forward signed the new deal earlier this week.
Barys, meanwhile, extended their scoreless streak on Thursday, suffering a narrow 0:1 defeat to CSKA in Moscow. Adam Scheel stopped 22 shots, conceding the only goal with a minute and a half remaining in regulation. Mikhail Kravets stated that, based on the performance, his team deserved at least a draw. The Kazakhstani club continues its push for a playoff spot with 39 points after 50 games.
