In the final home game of January, Barys hosted Admiral. Mason Morelli missed the game for medical reasons, while team captain Kirill Savitskiy returned to the lineup after an injury. Adam Scheel once again got the start in goal.
The opening period went in favor of the visitors, who converted one of their two scoring chances. Dmitry Zavgorodniy finished off a two-on-one rush to give Admiral the lead. Barys responded early in the second period, as Tyce Thompson joined a counterattack as the trailer and found the net. Midway through the frame, Dmytro Timashov upset the home crowd for the second time. His goal came as a result of Admiral’s power-play pressure, although the puck crossed the line after play had returned to even strength. Shortly after, Kyle Olson struck while Vladivostok were shorthanded.
Barys spent most of the third period in the offensive zone, but Stepan Starkov and Vyacheslav Osnovin cooled the hosts’ attacking momentum. A goal by Jake Massey slightly eased the pain of a fourth straight defeat for Barys. On January 31, Mikhail Kravets’ team will face Amur in Khabarovsk.
