In the fourth game of their extended home series, Barys faced off against Severstal. Danil Butenko, Roman Starchenko, and Kirill Panyukov returned to the Astana team’s lineup.
The game began with two consecutive penalties against the hosts. While Barys managed to survive the first shorthanded situation, Severstal capitalized on the second, with Ruslan Abrosimov opening the scoring.
Severstal’s next two goals came from well-executed counterattacks, finished by Nikolay Burenov and Alexei Kruchinin. Later, Roman Starchenko ended his personal goal drought by scoring his 212th KHL goal, with Nikolay Shulga earning his first career point in the league on the play. However, Severstal quickly restored their lead thanks to Mikhail Ilyin, followed by Kirill Pilipenko netting a fifth past Andrei Shutov just before the second intermission.
In the final period, Andrei Churkin scored shorthanded for Severstal, and Semyon Simonov netted his first goal in a Barys jersey to wrap up the game.
On February 22, Galym Mambetaliev’s squad will host Admiral on home ice.
