CSKA were Barys' second opponent of the current road trip. The Astana coaching staff made just one change to the lineup, with Kirill Lyapunov replacing Maksim Mukhametov as the 13th forward.
The opening two periods featured a tightly contested battle with few clear-cut scoring chances. CSKA came closest when Maxim Sorkin broke free after leaving the penalty box, only to be denied by Adam Scheel. At the other end, Michael Vecchione and Max Willman both had excellent opportunities, but Dmitry Gamzin stood tall for the hosts.
In the end, a single goal once again proved decisive. With just 90 seconds remaining in regulation, Nikita Okhotyukscored the game-winner for CSKA.
On 24 January, Mikhail Kravets' team will continue its road trip with a game against Neftekhimik in Nizhnekamsk.
