CSKA became Barys’ second opponent during the road trip. The visiting coaching staff made only one change to the lineup, rotating the 13th forward — Kirill Lyapunov was listed instead of Maxim Mukhametov.
The first two periods were played in a tight, physical battle with few clear-cut scoring chances. CSKA came close when Maxim Sorkin broke in alone after leaving the penalty box, while Barys had excellent opportunities through Michael Vecchione and Max Willman. However, Adam Scheel and Dmitry Gamzin were outstanding in those moments.
In the end, the outcome was once again decided by a single goal. With a minute and a half remaining in regulation, Nikita Okhotyuk scored the game-winner for CSKA. On January 24, Mikhail Kravets’ team will face Neftekhimik in Nizhnekamsk.
