In the third game of the New Year home series, Barys hosted Avtomobilist. The Astana coaching staff once again opted for a lineup with 13 forwards and 6 defensemen. Emil Galimov returned to the roster after missing two games due to injury. Nikita Boyarkin made his second start of the season and his first start on home ice.
The scoring was opened midway through the first period — following a faceoff win by the home side, Jake Massie blasted an unstoppable shot from the blue line. Overall, Barys controlled the play, but two mistakes in their own zone allowed the visitors back into the game. Before the intermission, Alexander Sharov and Nikita Shashkov each scored for Avtomobilist.
In the second period, Barys created plenty of scoring chances. On one of them, Mason Morelli failed to convert a penalty shot, while Michael Vecchione and Riley Walsh hit the posts. The visitors, however, capitalized on one of their few opportunities, as Maxim Tarasov extended Avtomobilist’s lead.
The final period followed a similar pattern. The home side missed several clear-cut chances, and in the final minute Reid Boucher scored into an empty net to seal the result.
On December 27, the Kazakh team will conclude their 2025 home schedule with a game against Amur.
