Barys fall to Metallurg

Barys kicked off their first road trip of the new season in Magnitogorsk. The Astana lineup remained unchanged after their home win over Dynamo.

The visitors started the game well but then took two penalties in the offensive zone, giving their opponents momentum. In one of those moments, Roman Kantserov caught Andrei Shutov off guard, reacting quickest in the scramble in the left faceoff circle.

The second period proved decisive. Once again capitalizing on the power play, the home team struck through Nikita Mikhailis and Luke Johnson. Late in the frame, Alexey Maklyukov scored Metallurg’s fourth goal.

Jake Massie, who netted his first official goal for Barys, softened the blow a little for the visitors. Emil Galimov extended his points streak to five games with an assist. But Magnitogorsk had the last word, as Derek Barach added to his tally.

On September 20, Mikhail Kravets’ team will face Severstal in Cherepovets.
