Barys Lose to Salavat Yulaev

In their first game at the Republic of Bashkortostan Cup, Barys faced tournament hosts Salavat Yulaev.

The Astana coaching staff included newcomers Garrett Pilon, Logan Day, Asanali Sarkenov and Chase Priskie in the lineup, as well as 17-year-old Snezhnye Barsy defenseman Temirlan Aiboluly. Andrei Shutov started in goal.

The visitors made a good start and forced their opponents to take two penalties, but were unable to capitalize on the power-play opportunities, although Pilon hit the post in one of the episodes. Salavat, however, made the most of their first power play. Just as a Barys player was leaving the penalty box, Maxim Kuznetsov opened the scoring. Before the first intermission, the Astana side managed to equalize through Chase Priskie and Alikhan Omirbekov. The former sent a shot from the blue line, while the latter successfully finished the play in front of the opposing net.

The second goal for the Ufa side also came on the power play, with Devin Brosso scoring from a pass by Vadim Shipachyov. In the final period, accurate shots from Sergei Varlov and Kuznetsov sealed the hosts' victory.

Mikhail Kravets' team will face Amur next. The game will take place on August 18 at 15:00.
