Barys continued its road trip in Omsk. The coaching staff reshuffled all the lines, bringing Ruslan Ospanov and Tamirlan Gaitamirov into the lineup. For the first time this season, the Astana side played with 11 forwards and four full defensive pairs. Adam Scheel started in goal.
The opening period was dominated by the home team. For 14 and a half minutes, Barys defended well, but before the intermission, Avangard finally broke through — Konstantin Okulov scored twice. In the second period, Barys turned up the pressure and created numerous chances, but managed to convert only once — Mason Morelli beat the goalie with a beautiful backhand under the crossbar. Avangard, in turn, showed great efficiency, capitalizing on their few opportunities. Dmitry Rashevsky and Damir Sharipzyanov (on the power play) extended the lead. After the fourth goal, Andrey Shutov replaced Scheel in net.
In the final period, Barys once again showed character and reduced the gap to a single goal thanks to Morelli’s second of the night and a marker from Kirill Savitski. However, the comeback effort fell just short.
On October 31, Mikhail Kravets’ team will continue their road trip in Chelyabinsk, facing Traktor.
