Barys Defeat Avangard in Convincing Fashion

Barys resumed their KHL regular-season campaign with a home game against Avangard. The Astana coaching staff kept the same lineup following the game against Spartak, making only a few changes to the defensive pairings in the top four.

The opening period was played at a tremendous pace, with plenty of scoring chances at both ends of the ice. Each team converted one opportunity before the first intermission. Nail Yakupov scored on the power play for Avangard, while Tajs Thompson capitalized on a rebound after Vsevolod Logvin’s shot.

Early in the second period, Justin Bailey produced one of his trademark individual rushes to put the hosts ahead. Late in the period, Mason Morelli redirected Logan Day’s shot into the net to convert Barys’ power play.

The fourth goal came after a beautifully executed combination, finished with a decisive touch by Justin Bailey, who scored his tenth goal of the season. Thompson then wrapped up the scoring by finding the empty net. Andrey Shutov made 41 saves.

On October 12, Mikhail Kravets’ team will host Sibir.
