Barys Fall to Ak Bars in a Dramatic Battle

In the second game of their road trip, Barys faced Ak Bars. Kirill Lyapunov and Batyrkhan Muratov were added to the lineup in place of Maxim Mukhametov and Kirill Savitsky. Adam Shil, who had not played since December 5, got the start in goal.

The opening period was played with a territorial advantage for the Kazan side, but Barys’ defense was flawless throughout the first 20 minutes. In the second period, however, Ak Bars managed to break through. First, Alexander Khmelevski forced the puck into the net from close range, and shortly after that Grigory Denisenko scored with a precise shot into the near top corner.

Max Willman brought the intrigue back into the game midway through the third period by converting a power play. However, Mikhail Kravets’ team was unable to mount a final push. Artem Galimov sealed the outcome by scoring into an empty net.

On January 10, the Kazakhstan club will play Salavat Yulaev in Ufa.
