Barys Beat Spartak in Shootout

Barys concluded their second road trip of the season in Moscow. Ahead of the game against Spartak, the Astana coaching staff made three changes to the lineup: Kirill Lyapunov replaced Dinmukhamed Kaiyrzhan on the third line, Alikhan Assetov came in for Kirill Panyukov on the fourth line, while Andrei Shutov started in goal.

The opening period was broken up into a series of short stretches with plenty of stoppages. The teams often managed to create positional attacks only on the power play, so both goaltenders dealt comfortably with everything that came their way before the first intermission.

The second period was much more productive. Spartak scored on the power play and shorthanded through Daniil Gutik and Danil Pivchulin. For Barys, Alikhan Omirbekov and Alikhan Assetov found the back of the net. In the final period, Lucas Lockhart put the hosts back in front, but the Astana side once again showed character, scoring with a 6-on-5 advantage.

The game ultimately went to a shootout, where Garrett Pilon converted the only attempt. As a result, Barys earned four of a possible six points on the road trip. On October 10, Mikhail Kravets' team will host Avangard.
