Today, the KHL-regulated meeting of the club's management with media representatives took place at the Barys Arena. The questions were answered by the president of "Barys" Boris Ivanishchev and the head coach of the first team Yuri Mikhailis.
- Boris Anatolyevich, who initiated Darren Dietz's transfer to CSKA?
- Darren gave a lot to Barys and the whole of Kazakhstan. It was an iconic figure. But it's time to move on, both for the player and the club. Recently, a lot of attention has been focused on his person, including on non-hockey topics. It's time for the other players of our team to take on the burden of leadership.
- How do you see the further development of women's hockey?
- Women's hockey is developing here. "Tomiris" team for the second year in a row takes the second place in the championship of Kazakhstan. Next year we plan to apply for participation in the Women's Hockey League. The final answer will be after the New Year. Our team is young, competing with the main team from Almaty. To make progress, you need to play with the strongest.
- Is it possible for our youth team to return to the JHL in the current conditions?
- Everything will depend on the coronavirus situation. At the moment, this creates certain difficulties when passing the border. The decision will be made after the pandemic.
- Evaluate the current position of the team.
- Of course, the season turns out to be quite stressful. The newcomers of the team who came in the summer took time to adapt to the new league. After a series of injuries, we reach the right level. Everything is tight in the standings, so every match is important. So the team adjusts to each meeting in full.
- The club has officially announced that Matthew Frettin left for family reasons, but the network writes that, most likely, we will not see him in the Barys team anymore. How would you comment on this?
- Indeed, he left for family reasons. After the New Year, it will be clear whether he will stay in Barys or not.
- During the transfer window, Barys was expected to make some acquisitions. Why was there no transfer news?
- We have been negotiating with some players. We wanted to acquire defenders with experience in the NHL. We sent the contract, but just yesterday the deal fell through. We had two options, experienced North American players, but the club did not let us go. But I think with the guys who are now in the squad, you can also achieve your goals.
- Who is the hockey player of the year in your opinion?
- Nikita Mikhailis gives the best season in the KHL, is the real leader of the team. He's growing like a master, getting better and better every year.
- There is a possibility that Cody Kunik and Tomas Yurcho will be invited to the national teams at the upcoming Olympics. If they are called, will the club release them for this time?
- The Olympics is the dream of every athlete. If they are called, of course we will let them go.
Yuri Mikhailis on the prospects of Adil Beketayev
- He trains well, prepares for every game, you can see his great desire. We talked with him that there will be a chance to prove himself, and he will play in the near future. We will look at his preparation, how he looks on the ice and understands his partners.
- Now it's time for decisive matches, there are 6-7 defenders left, can someone from pharma claim a place in the squad?
- First of all, this is Adil Beketayev, we are not considering anyone else yet.
- Is there an opportunity to see the third goalkeeper of "Barys" Andrei Shutov in the game?
- In Chelyabinsk, he was ready to go out, he was on the bench. Nikita Boyarkin started the game well and confidently, helped out the team a lot, so there was no point in changing him. We see how Andrei treats the training process, he has progress, we will give him a chance to play.
- Is there an opportunity to include Ivan Stepanenko, he showed himself well at the World Cup?
- Since the beginning of the season, I wanted to comment on this moment, but for some reason, such a question was not asked. There was a conversation with Ivan after the World Cup, they called him to the training camp, but he himself did not want to be in Barys.
- Yuri Vladimirovich, there are a lot of questions on social networks about why Samat Daniyar and Nikita Boyarkin don't always play?
Samat shows a confident game in every match, but you can't fool physiology. He needs to exercise more physically. In some games, especially in the last ones, it was clear that he was slightly inferior. He looks great, plays confidently, always finds ways out in a difficult situation. I think he will make a good defender. According to Nikita Boyarkin, this is his first season in the KHL. Take the first game, it was very exciting for him, he was very worried. And if you take the game with "Traktor", then he saved a lot and helped out the team. He is gaining experience with every game, constantly adding, so we will consider him as the main goalkeeper in the future.
- Is it likely that a youth team, Kazakhstani guys, will appear so that they can play for the World Cup?
- Why not? Young players from the "Snezhnye Barsy" and "Nomad" will be called to the training camps before the World Cup, we will review them. Who will prove themselves, if they are ready, then why not. You always need to look ahead. At the last World Cup Kirill Savitsky played well and proved himself as a courageous guy, lay down under the puck and helped out the team. This season in the KHL, he has improved very well and, most importantly, he felt confident in himself, first of all.
- On the eve of the game with Avtomobilist, the Nomad team defeated Kulager, Maxim Musorov scored a double in the match, will he get another chance to prove himself in Barys?
- It all depends on him. Yes, he shows a good game for Nomad, but when he comes to the KHL to play for Barys, there are different speeds here, and he does not have confidence and physical readiness somewhere. But he's working on it, trying to get into the main team.
