Thompson's Hat Trick Leads Barys to Comeback Win over the Dragons

Barys faced Shanghai Dragons in St. Petersburg in the sixth game of their road trip. The Astana coaching staff decided to keep the same lineup following their victory in Minsk.

Andrei Shutov's shutout streak came to an end midway through the opening period, when Vladislav Barulin broke free from his marker and beat the visiting goaltender with a one-timer. Brennan Menell then extended the Dragons' lead with a well-placed shot from the blue line.

Barys found a spark following a fight between Alikhan Assetov and Jivani Smith. The Astana side then forced their opponents into taking penalties and made the most of their power-play opportunities. First, Tais Thompson got a touch on Justin Bailey's shot during a 5-on-3 advantage. A little later, the No. 9 scored again on a 5-on-4 power play to complete his brace.

In the final period, the visitors completed their comeback. Asanali Sarkenov scored his first KHL goal, which ultimately proved to be the game-winner. In the dying seconds, Thompson completed his first hat trick in the League by scoring into an empty net.

On November 4, Mikhail Kravets' team will face Traktor in Chelyabinsk.
