KHL. Barys vs. Sibir 4:5 OT

In the second game of the new season, Barys lost to Sibir in overtime.

The Astana coaching staff made three changes - Ansar Shaykhmeddenov and Mikhail Rakhmanov appeared in the game, replacing Emil Nurgaliyev and Alexander Borisevich. Kirill Nikitin replaced Dinmuhamed Kayirzhan in the lineup, though he hasn't been on the ice yet.

The puck went into the net of Edward Pasquale's goal in the third minute. But the Barys coaching staff took an offside call, and the referees canceled the goal after watching a replay of the episode. The hosts responded quite quickly and did it according to the rules. David Sklenichka capitalized on the power play, scoring the first puck in a Barys jersey in the KHL. A little later, Alex Grant also converted the extra man and solidified Astana's lead.

The second period began with another goal in the Kazakhstan team's 5-on-4 format. Riley Barber scored his first goal in the League. Ilya Morozov gave Kazakhstan one goal back. Near the end of the period after a great pass from Trevor Murphy, Vladimir Butuzov minimized the gap in the score.

Nikolai Prokhorkin scored his first goal for Sibir in the first minute of the third period. Then the teams traded goals by Batyrlan Muratov and Alexei Yakovlev, after which the game went into overtime.

The extra five minutes turned out to be unusually short. Murphy found himself one-on-one with Pasquale in the ninth second and coolly realized his chance. Andrei Skabelka's team will play their next game on September 7. Barys will face Sibir again, though this game will take place in Novosibirsk.
