KHL. Barys - Sochi. Trainer's comments

A press conference was held after the match between Barys and Sochi (5:4 OT) with the head trainers of the teams taking part.

- First of all, I wanted to thank my team. In my opinion, we played a very good, organized game today. We played against a strong opponent. Barys plays well at home. We analyzed the match, barely saw any weaknesses. Satisfied that we scored four, but we also missed. So overall, getting ready for the next game.

- Can we say that the team was given the maximum?

 - It's hard to say, this is hockey. Some days you can throw 16 times and not score, and some days you can throw two. Once again, we analyzed Barys, the team plays well at home. Perhaps we were a little out of luck, we made a mistake, and our opponents took advantage of it.

- It seemed like an interesting match for the audience, there were nine goals.  How does it feel to observe from the trainer's bench?

- We are working for the audience, if the audience is interested, then we are also doing our job well.

- Not an easy game, a poor start on our part. We missed some easy goals, we didn't have enough energy to play defense reliably. So 0-2 after the first one. I can thank the team for their reaction to that period, for the fact that we were able to seriously improve, turning the game around. In the second period, I believe there were 24 shots on goal versus four. We scored good goals. We could have scored more, but, again, we missed such easy goals, as I like to call them. We did not give up, we might even have won in regulation time. Our team had a great fight and snatched the victory in overtime. I also want to thank the audience, there was a very good atmosphere.

- You made a decision to change the goalie after the first period, but why not after 0:2?

- At the end of the period the second puck was missed, so we watched it that way, thought about it at halftime and decided to change it.

- There were long shots, it doesn't seem to be the goalie's fault entirely. Why such a decision?

- Not a complete one, I agree. We don't change the goalkeeper only when he's really at fault. There are different situations. Plus he got a little bit injured. We made this decision.

 - As you said earlier, the team outplayed their opponent in the second period, but out of their four attempts, they scored two pucks. Got into the attack, or didn't they play defense reliably?

- There wasn't a defense, there was two counterattacks. The attack was too much and we got two goals from the counterattack.
