KHL. Barys – Spartak. Before the match.

Barys arrived from the capital of Kazakhstan for the first ever home match of the KHL regular season in Almaty. The team held several training sessions after returning from a tour of China and the Far East. Barys won twice in four games. In the final game of the away series, held in Vladivostok, Barys lost to the local Admiral – with a 0:3 score. The team is currently in the 9th position in the Eastern Conference table. There are two players on the injured reserve: Forward Curtis Volk and defenseman Viktor Svedberg. 

Moscow  Spartak arrived in Kazakhstan after a long home series. In four matches, the Russian team scored 3 points. In the last match of the series on Saturday, Spartak lost at home to Sochi with a 0: 1 score. Head coach Oleg Znarok at the post-match press conference complained about the "poor implementation of scoring chances." The head coach of Spartak did not arrive in Almaty for personal reasons. The team in the upcoming match will be led by Hariys Vitolinsh. In the Western Conference table, Spartak is on the seventh line, having scored 7 points in 7 games. There are two forwards on the injured reserve: Ilya Arkalov and Yegor Kruzhenkov.  

In last season Spartak and Barys met twice: in Moscow, the visitors fought back with a 0: 2 score, winning with a 3: 2 score. Darren Dietz scored the winning goal. Two weeks later, Spartak took the victory (5: 4) from Kazakhstan, winning back with a 0:3 score.
