In the fourth game of their road trip, Barys will face Avtomobilist. Both teams head into their final head-to-head matchup of the regular season riding three-game losing streaks.
In their previous game, the Yekaterinburg side fell on the road to Salavat Yulaev in Ufa, 1–4. Roman Gorbunov scored the lone goal, while Nikita Novosyolov and Evgeny Alikin combined for 39 saves. Head coach Nikolay Zavarukhin noted that the teams played at different speeds early on, with the opponents looking more mobile and quicker.
After 43 games, Avtomobilist has collected 49 points. Team scoring leader and top goal scorer Reid Boucher has 35 points (15 goals, 20 assists). Vladimir Galkin ranks among the league’s top five goaltenders in save percentage (92.7%). Ahead of the game against Barys, the Ural club acquired star Dutch forward Daniel Sprong from CSKA in exchange for cash compensation.
The Astana side also came up short in Ufa, losing to Salavat Yulaev 1–3. Dinmukhamed Kaiyrzhan scored the lone goal for Barys, while Adam Shil made 33 saves. Head coach Mikhail Kravets said his players competed hard but were dreadful on the power play.
With 36 points after 45 games, the Kazakhstani club remains in the playoff race, trailing the top eight by just three points.
