Game Preview: Barys vs. Admiral

Barys will close out the first month of the regular season with a home game against Admiral.

The Far Eastern side arrives in Kazakhstan’s capital after a long home stretch, capped by a 4–5 loss to CSKA. In that game, Stepan Starkov scored twice, while top scorer Aleksandr Daryin (2+4) and Kyle Olson added one each. Goalie Adam Huska stopped 25 shots. Head coach Leonid Tambiev noted he had no complaints about his players’ effort, but stressed the importance of finishing such games with a win.

Through seven games, Admiral has collected 8 points. Earlier this week, they parted ways with forward Valentin Demchenko and brought back Vyacheslav Osnovin, acquiring him from Lada in exchange for financial compensation.

On Saturday, Barys claimed a high-scoring win over Sibir (6–4). Semyon Simonov scored his first KHL brace, while Dmitriy Breus and Ian McCoshen netted their debut goals for Barys. Jake Massie, who recorded 3 points (1+2), has climbed among the league’s top-scoring defensemen early in the season with 2 goals and 6 assists. Vsevolod Logvin and Adil Beketayev also registered their first points of the campaign. Head coach Mikhail Kravets noted that while his team conceded first again, they showed character to battle back for the win.

After nine games, Barys sits at 9 points. Michael Vecchione (4+5) remains the team’s top scorer. Tyler Wotherspoon is preparing to make his KHL debut.
