"Barys" and "Ak Bars" are preparing to play their second faceoff in four days. Once again, the team meeting will be dedicated to the problem of snow leopard population reduction.
Barys has been cooperating with UNDP Kazakhstan (United Nations Development Program in Kazakhstan) for several years and traditionally holds "Snow Leopard Protection Day" at the club's home matches. Ak Bars became a participant in the program for saving snow leopards of the Sailugemsky National Park in the Altai Republic. Cooperation between the two clubs is focused on raising attention to the problem of an imperiled species and raising funds to study the snow leopard population.
On November 4 in Kazan, Barys led 3-0, but the final siren recorded a 5-3 victory for Ak Bars. Pontus Oberg, Barys' top sniper, scored his 13th goal of the season, later assisting on David Sklenicka's power play, allowing No. 46 to reach the 20-goal mark. Joseph LaBate also scored for Astana. Andrei Shutov saved 31 shots on net. Dmitry Yudin and Dmitrij Jaskin, who scored a double each, and Dmitry Katelevsky had a hand in the home team's comeback. Artur Akhtyamov let in three goals after five shots, and Timur Bilyalov was on the ice, keeping his possession intact (20 saves).
The match at Barys Arena will begin at 19:30 Astana time.
