In the third matchup of their New Year homestand, Barys will take on Avtomobilist. In the season series, the Astana side holds the edge with two wins (3–2 in overtime and 4–1).
After last week’s home loss to Barys, the Ekaterinburg team bounced back with three straight victories. In their most recent game, Avtomobilist cruised to a shutout win on the road, crushing Sibir 5–0. Team scoring leader Reid Boucher (12 goals, 19 assists) recorded a brace, while Yuri Pautov, Stéphane Da Costa, and Nikita Tryamkin also scored. Goaltender Evgeny Alikin made 19 saves. Head coach Nikolay Zavarukhin noted that his players weathered the opponent’s early pressure, with the second period proving decisive as the visitors capitalized on their chances.
After 38 games, Avtomobilist has earned 45 points, comfortably sitting in the top four of the Eastern Conference. Vladimir Galkin ranks among the league’s top five goaltenders in save percentage (93%). Forwards Maksim Denezhkin and Danil Romantsev remain sidelined with injuries.
On Tuesday, despite firing 30 shots on goal, Barys was unable to beat Sergey Mylnikov and fell to Traktor 0–2. Andrey Shutov made 20 saves. Head coach Mikhail Kravets praised his team’s penalty killing and said his players performed well in the second and third periods, but finishing left much to be desired. With 34 points from 39 games, Barys remains eighth in the Eastern Conference standings.
The puck drops for Barys vs. Avtomobilist at 7:30 p.m. Astana time.
