In the opening matchup of the 2025/26 KHL regular season, Barys will take on last year’s finalist, Traktor.
The Chelyabinsk team kicked off the season in the Opening Cup. In a hard-fought game against Lokomotiv in Yaroslavl, Traktor fell short in a shootout (1–2). Their only goal came from newcomer Pierrick Dubé, assisted by fellow new signings Mikhail Grigorenko and Josh Leivo.
Barys wrapped up their preseason with two home wins over Sibir (3–1 and 3–2). Newcomers Michael Vecchione, Jake Massie, Mason Morelli, and Emil Galimov all found the back of the net during the summer games.
Ahead of the regular season, the Kazakh club signed two-way contracts with several young players who had been on tryout. However, at the start of the championship, the coaching staff won’t be able to count on Nikita Boyarkin, Ivan Nikolishin, Roman Starchenko, and Tamirlan Gaitamirov, all sidelined with injuries. Kirill Savitsky has been named team captain.
The Barys – Traktor game starts at 4:30 PM Astana time. The matchup will be held in memory of the Lokomotiv team that tragically passed away in 2011 and will begin with a moment of silence.
Tickets are available at the Barys Arena box office and online at hcbarys.kz/tickets.
The game will be broadcast live on KHL Prime.
Before the puck drop, an autograph session with Roman Starchenko and Ivan Nikolishin will take place in the third-floor lobby at 3:30 PM.
