Lada – Barys: Game Preview

In their first road game of the season, Barys will face Lada.

On Monday, the Tolyatti side picked up their first win of the championship, defeating Dinamo Minsk 4–2 at home. Interestingly, the visitors scored a goal into their own empty net. According to the official game sheet, Riley Sawchuk scored twice for Lada, while Nikita Setdikov and Mason Millman added one goal each. Nikita Podskrebalin made 24 saves. Pavel Zubov noted that special teams play proved decisive in the game.

Lada have collected four points from their first five games of the season. The team’s leading scorer is currently Riley Sawchuk (3+2).

Barys opened the season with two consecutive wins before falling to Amur 1–3. Despite the defeat, the Astana side dominated the game and outshot their opponents by more than two to one (37–18). However, Barys managed to score just once, with Garrett Pilon finding the back of the net after assists from Mason Morelli and Justin Bailey. As a result, all three players extended their point streaks to three consecutive games.

Abzal Alibek made his debut at the new level. Mikhail Kravets, who marked his 450th game as a KHL head coach, said his players gave everything they could to win but were unable to convert many of their scoring chances.

Barys have collected four points from three games. The team’s leading scorer is Justin Bailey (3+4). Arkady Shestakov and Asanali Sarkenov has also travelled with the team for the road game.
