Before the Neftekhimik – Barys Game


Barys will kick off their final road trip of October in Nizhnekamsk.

In their previous home game, Neftekhimik fell to Salavat Yulaev (1–2). Damir Zhafyarov scored the team’s only goal, while goalie Yaroslav Ozolin made 26 saves. Head coach Igor Grishin noted that the opponent played solid defense and blocked a large number of shots.

After 20 games, the Nizhnekamsk team has earned 21 points. The team’s top scorers are Evgeny Mityakin (8+8), Andrei Belozyorov (7+9), and Damir Zhafyarov (6+10). Forwards Alexander Dergachyov and Nikita Popugaev remain sidelined with injuries.

Ahead of Republic Day, Barys picked up a 3–1 home win over Amur. Defenseman Jake Massie scored one of the goals, reaching 10 points (3+7) this season. Alikhan Omirbekov and Tyce Thompson also found the net. Adam Scheel stopped 31 shots. Head coach Mikhail Kravets said his team controlled most of the game and gave their fans a great gift before the holiday.

The Kazakh club has 19 points after 19 games. Michael Vecchione has caught up with Riley Walsh in the team’s scoring race (both 6+9). Nikita Boyarkin, Alikhan Asetov, Maxim Mukhametov, and Emil Galimov remain out with injuries and continue their recovery in Astana.
