Ahead of the Sibir vs. Barys Match

Barys is wrapping up its road series with a game against Sibir. In their previous game, the Novosibirsk team lost at home to Traktor in a high-scoring affair (4:5). Taylor Beck, who recently returned from injury, scored a hat-trick, while Valentin Pyanov added another goal. Goalie Denis Kostin made 37 saves. Head coach Vadim Yepanchintsev praised his team’s third period performance but noted that their discipline still needs improvement.

After 17 games, Sibir has earned 19 points. Defenseman Trevor Murphy (4+16) became the first player in the league to reach 20 points this season, making him the top scorer and assist leader. Defenseman Yegor Martynov remains on the injured list.

Barys, on the other hand, secured its first win under head coach Galym Mambetaliev on Monday. Alihan Omirbekov, currently Barys' top scorer (3+4), found the back of the net again. Kirill Panyukov scored the game-winner with just 30 seconds left in regulation. Damir Zhafyarov recorded his first assist with the team, marking his 200th career KHL assist. Goalie Nikita Boyarkin stopped 34 shots on goal, and Mambetaliev praised the team’s determination, highlighting that they blocked 28 shots during the game.

As of now, Barys has 9 points from 18 games. Defenseman Viktor Antipin, who suffered a fracture in the previous game against Dinamo Minsk, will soon be placed on the injured list. Danil Butenko has been called up from Nomad to take his place.

The game between Sibir and Barys starts at 5:30 PM Astana time. It will be broadcast live on Qazsport and KHL TV.
