SKA’s farm team, which competes in the VHL, began their tournament campaign with a 1–2 defeat to Admiral. Maxim Kazakov scored the team’s only goal, finding the net while SKA-Varyag had six skaters on the ice with the goaltender pulled. Goaltender Gleb Saranchuk made 11 saves.

Yesterday, Barys suffered a narrow 1–2 shootout defeat to SKA. Vsevolod Logvin opened his scoring account in preseason games, assisted by Samat Daniyar. Hunter Shepard made 19 saves. Forward Justin Bailey made his debut for the Astana club.
