Before the Game: Traktor vs Barys

Barys will conclude its October road trip in Chelyabinsk. This will be the third meeting between the teams in the current regular season. Previously, both sides earned overtime victories — 4:3 for Barys and 3:2 for Traktor.

In their last outing, Traktor, led by Benoît Groulx, lost at home to Avtomobilist in a shootout (1:2). The only goal for the Chelyabinsk side was scored by one of the league’s top snipers, Mikhail Grigorenko (11 goals in total). Chris Driedger made 24 saves. The head coach noted that he was pleased with the team’s effort on the ice, even though they fell short of earning an extra point.

After 21 games, Traktor has 23 points, holding sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Josh Leivo (7+15) ranks among the top five scorers in the league, while Semyon Der-Arguchintsev is among the top three in assists (16). Grigory Dronov continues to serve a five-game suspension.

Barys has yet to snap its road losing streak. On Wednesday, the Astana side once again struggled to capitalize on scoring chances and fell short by one goal against Avangard (3:4). Mason Morelli scored twice, and Kirill Savitski added another goal. Riley Walsh reached the 10-assist mark and remains among the top five scoring defensemen of the season. Head coach Mikhail Kravets, who coached his 400th KHL game, noted that despite the loss, the team showed character and has players ready to fight until the final buzzer.

With 19 points after 21 games, the Kazakh team remains in the Eastern Conference playoff zone.
