Boyarkin’s Shutout Secures Barys Victory in Khabarovsk

Barys played the fourth of their six March road games in Khabarovsk. Maxim Mukhametov was included in the lineup in place of the suspended Alikhan Asetov.

In the opening period, the hosts controlled the puck more and even hit the post once. However, Barys looked more dangerous overall, creating a couple of good chances from point shots and rebounds.

The Astana side opened the scoring early in the second period. Alikhan Omirbekov converted on the power play, ending his goal drought that had lasted since November 23 of last year. Midway through the period, Max Willman tested the crossbar of Maksim Dorozhko’s net with a powerful shot. Then, with 32 seconds left before the second intermission, Michael Vecchione once again capitalized on the man advantage.

In the final period, Barys played confidently with the lead and did not allow the opponents to bring the intrigue back into the game. Vecchione sealed the win with an empty-net goal against Amur. Nikita Boyarkin made 34 saves and recorded his first shutout of the season.

On March 12, Mikhail Kravets’ team will face Admiral in Vladivostok.
