Boyarkin’s Shutout Leads Barys to Victory in Khabarovsk

Barys played the fourth game of its six-game March road trip in Khabarovsk. With Alikhan Asetov suspended, Maksim Mukhametov was added to the lineup.

The home side controlled possession for much of the opening period and even hit the post once. Still, the more dangerous chances came from Barys, who created several quality opportunities off shots from the blue line.

Early in the second period, the visitors opened the scoring. Alikhan Omirbekov converted on the power play, ending a goal drought that had lasted since November 23 of last year. Midway through the frame, Max Willman nearly doubled the lead with a powerful shot that rang off the crossbar. Then, with just 32 seconds left before intermission, Michael Vecchione struck again on the man advantage.

Barys stayed composed in the final period and never allowed Amur to get back into the game. Vecchione sealed the win with an empty-net goal late in regulation. Nikita Boyarkin stopped all 34 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season.

On March 12, Mikhail Kravets’ team will face Admiral in Vladivostok.
