Barys reached the semifinals of UTLC Ice Cup

Today the final matches of the group stage of the fourth international ice hockey tournament UTLC Ice Cup 2024 took place at Barys Arena.

The program of Group B was completed by the duel between SKA Army and Dynamo from Minsk. The nominal hosts took the initiative from the opening minutes and created two productive episodes, with Anatoly Balalin and Daniil Gladikov at the tip of the scales. The key to the match was the second period, during which SKA Army created a decisive advantage in the score. In the final third, St. Petersburg slowed down a bit, but Dynamo players failed to unlock the opponents' goal. Anatoly Balalin, Timur Kazakov and Mikhail Savrov scored a double each for the winners.

In the final match of Group A, Barys and Lokomotiv faced off. Astana team played well in the first period, thanks to which they went into the break in the lead. Eerasyl Turar and Aliar Amangeldi added to their sniper accounts. At the beginning of the second twenty minutes, Yaroslavl returned to the game after goals by Roman Martynov and Semyon Gerasimov.

The denouement came just before the final siren. With the score at 4-4, Lokomotiv succeeded in two big, effective counterattacks, with only 52 seconds between those goal kicks. Barys could not recover after that moment, so the final assault of the tournament did not work out for the hosts.

Thus, Barys took second place in Group A and made it to the semifinals of the tournament, where our team will play with SKA Army. Lokomotiv and Dynamo will fight for the second ticket to the final. The GLC and Humo teams will face off in the final fifth place match.
