A press conference ahead of the sixth edition of the international UTLC Ice Cup tournament was held at the Barys Arena media center.
The event featured UTLC ERA CEO Alexey Grom, Barys Hockey Club Deputy General Director for Sports Alexey Mamontov, the club’s player development coach Leo Gudas, Canadian specialist and former European club coach Jason O’Leary, as well as representatives of the participating teams.
Alexey Grom, CEO of JSC UTLC ERA:
“As I’ve said many times before, it’s a great honor for our company to support a tournament like this year after year. And seeing representatives from hockey powerhouses such as the Czech Republic and Canada here today makes it even more special. Sometimes people ask me whether it’s difficult for a company not directly involved in hockey to organize an event like this. In reality, it’s not a burden at all — it’s a real pleasure. Being here together and watching young talents showcase themselves on the ice is something we truly enjoy. It’s especially exciting to see this wonderful tournament taking place in such a beautiful city and modern arena. Congratulations to everyone on the start of the tournament! I wish all players and coaches good luck, great performances, and plenty of enjoyment from the game itself. And I invite fans to come to the arena and support their favorite teams.”
Alexey Mamontov, Deputy General Director for Sports of HC Barys:
“We’re happy to welcome everyone back to Astana. This tournament has become an important platform that brings together teams from five countries and contributes to the development of hockey. For the participants, it’s a great opportunity to demonstrate their skills and exchange experience. We’re expecting exciting and competitive games ahead, and I’m confident the tournament will be held at the highest level. I would also like to express special thanks to UTLC ERA, and personally to Alexey Nikolaevich Grom, for their many years of support. Thanks to this partnership, youth hockey continues to grow both in our country and in partner nations. I wish all teams success and, most importantly, an injury-free tournament. May everyone enjoy great hockey and unforgettable эмоtions!”
As part of the press conference, the official tournament draw was also held.
In Group A, Barys, Prague Vikings, and Army SKA Saint Petersburg will compete for a spot in the playoff stage.
Group B will feature Dynamo Minsk, Beijing Hokai, and Avangard Omsk.
Teams finishing third in their groups will play for fifth place. The remaining participants will advance to the semifinals and continue battling for bronze and gold medals.
