On the last day of January, Barys faced Avangard in Omsk. Missing 11 players from their main roster, the visitors had two debutants—Roman Bolshedvorsky and Kirill Lyapunov played their first KHL games. Sayan Daniyar also returned to KHL action for the first time since February 26, 2020.

In the opening period, Barys conceded three goals. Igor Martynov opened the scoring, followed shortly by Konstantin Okulov, who netted twice, including one on the power play. Barys created their most dangerous chances during a 5-on-3 power play. Near the end of the period, Stanislav Bocharov had a breakaway opportunity but couldn’t beat Mikhail Berdin.

In the second period, Barys improved significantly, leveling the gameplay. In one episode, a shot from Semyon Simonov narrowly missed the post. Later, a 3-on-2 counterattack ended with a goal by Batyrlan Muratov. However, Barys couldn’t fully get back into the game. In the final period, Ilya Kablukov scored Avangard’s fourth goal, and Ryan Spooner sealed the final score.

Barys will next face Amur in Khabarovsk on February 2.
