Barys opened their 2026 home schedule by hosting Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. The Astana coaching staff made just one change to the lineup, with Adam Scheel getting the start in goal.
The hosts looked sharp in the opening minutes and created several promising scoring opportunities but were once again unable to capitalize. Neftekhimik, meanwhile, made the most of one of their first chances, as German Tochilkin scored from close range.
The pattern of the game remained unchanged in the second period. Barys controlled possession for long stretches and generated sustained pressure, but they could not find a way past goaltender Yaroslav Ozolin. Despite firing 36 shots on goal, the Astana side was unable to find the back of the net and finished the game scoreless.
On January 17, Mikhail Kravets' squad will return to action at home against CSKA Moscow.
