In the final game of their long home stretch, Barys hosted Amur. The only lineup change for the Astana team came in goal — Adam Scheel started the game.
The puck hit the visitors’ net just two and a half minutes in, but after video review, the referees waved it off — Vsevolod Logvin had scored with his skate. Still, before the first intermission, Barys got on the board for real when defenseman Jake Massie showed off some great individual skill to beat the goalie.
The second period was dominated by the home team. For a long time, the visitors from Khabarovsk managed to hold the line, but late in the frame, Alikhan Omirbekov and Tyce Thompson finally broke through with quick wrist shots past Maxim Dorozhko. Following the third goal, Amur’s coaching staff switched goalies — Damir Shaimardanov came in to finish the game.
In the third period, Astana’s side slightly lost control due to a few penalties, and with just 36 seconds left, Kirill Petkov spoiled Scheel’s shutout bid. It didn’t affect the outcome, though — the Kazakh goalie finished with 31 saves.
Next up, Barys will face Neftekhimik in Nizhnekamsk on October 27.
