Barys opened their second home series of September against Ak Bars. For the first time this season, Vsevolod Logvin and Kirill Lyapunov appeared in the KHL lineup, while newcomer Adam Scheel made his debut in goal.
His shutout streak lasted only 14 seconds, as Kazan struck on a two-on-one break with Vladimir Alistrov opening the scoring. The hosts had two power-play opportunities before the first intermission, but their finishing left much to be desired. The second period was dominated by Barys, who created several dangerous chances, but were repeatedly denied by Timur Bilyalov.
Ak Bars capitalized on one of their few chances early in the third, with Nikita Dyniak scoring on the power play. Moments later, Michael Vecchione pulled one back for Barys, pouncing on a rebound off a blue-line shot. However, the home side couldn’t find an equalizer, as missed opportunities once again proved costly.
On September 27, Mikhail Kravets’ team will host Sibir in Astana.
