Barys wrapped up their short road trip with a game in Sochi. The Astana lineup remained unchanged after the historic win in Yaroslavl.
The home team opened the scoring in the eighth minute. Jean-Christophe Beaudin, with a shot from the right faceoff circle, ended Adam Scheel’s shutout streak at 75 minutes and 4 seconds. Barys nearly responded when Tyce Thompson hit the post. The situation could have worsened for the visitors after a five-minute major to Adil Beketayev, but they survived the penalty—although they lost Kirill Savitsky, who was injured during the sequence.
After a strong defensive stretch, the visitors seized the initiative and finally broke through before the second intermission. Kirill Panyukov scored off an excellent pass from Thompson behind the net. Ultimately, Barys’ No. 9 became the hero of the night, securing the victory in overtime.
On November 21, Mikhail Kravets’ team will host Salavat Yulaev in Astana.
