In their first game of November, Barys faced Neftekhimik in Astana. Forward Alihan Asetov returned to the lineup after an injury, while American newcomer Max Willman made his KHL debut. The coaching staff entrusted the starting goaltender position to Adam Scheel.
For more than ten minutes, Barys controlled the puck well in the offensive zone, creating solid positional attacks. However, Neftekhimik managed to push the play away from their net and earned a power play. The visitors couldn’t capitalize, but Barys’s play noticeably lost structure after that.
Early in the second period, the puck found its way into Filipp Dolganov’s net, but the goal was waved off due to a high stick. Three minutes later, Neftekhimik scored a legitimate goal — Nikita Khoruzhev finished off a counterattack to give Igor Grishin’s team the lead. Shortly after, Andrey Belozyorov converted on the power play. That seemed to wake Barys up — Asetov set up Kirill Panyukov for a goal. Just 61 seconds later, Belozyorov scored again to restore the two-goal lead. Dinmukhamed Kayyrzhan then took advantage of a lucky bounce in the offensive zone to pull Barys back within one.
In the final period, former Barys player Ivan Nikolishin added to Neftekhimik’s lead, and Belozyorov completed his hat trick to seal the win. On November 5, Mikhail Kravets’s team will host Salavat Yulaev on home ice.
