Let's summarize Barys' performance in the fourth month of the KHL regular season 2023/24. This column was prepared with the participation of the club's partner - Tourism and Sports Industry Support Fund CF.
By the end of December, Barys had played 45 games in the KHL regular season. Teams have 15 wins (8 in regulation time, 4 in overtime and 3 in shootouts) and 37 points. As of today, that result allows for only 11th place in the Eastern Conference. The gap from the playoff zone is 11 points.
In December, Astana won four out of eight meetings, and in two meetings our team lost by one puck. It's worth noting that Barys now has a current three-game successful streak.
Barys' biggest wins in the past stretch fell at the end of the month. At home, Oleg Bolyakin's wards beat Avangard and Traktor with the same score of 5:1. Barys' biggest defeats in December were in Omsk and Novosibirsk against the same Avangard and Sibir (1:5).
After the second renewal of the training staff in the season, the Kazakhstan team has noticeably improved in the offensive game. Over the last five games, Barys players have scored 19 goals (3.8 goals per game on average). In the league as a whole, the Astana team ranks eighth in efficiency in the Eastern Conference (109 pucks, 2.42 per game average).
Barys has also tightened up its power play a bit - the team now ranks 11th in the entire league in that metric (20.9%). But the play in the shorthanded game still leaves much to be desired - 75.6% and fourth place from the end of the table.

Anthony Camara became Barys' most productive player in December. The Canadian forward quickly joined the team and began to bring tangible value. He has 8 (7+1) points and an active streak of six straight games with goals in the past stretch.

Arkadiy Shestakov had a decent month with 7 (4+3) points and one game-winning goal. The team's top defenseman David Sklenička (3+4 in December and 6+18 overall) and Barys' top scorer Pontus Oberg (1+6, 15+15) also earned 7 points each.
Notably, Shestakov and Oberg have played all 45 games in the current regular season. Besides them, only Nelson Nogier, who along with Rudolf Červený is the team's leader in power plays (59 hits), can boast this achievement.
The team's most blocking player is David Sklenicka. He prevented opponents from converting the score 67 times. Barys' No. 90 also spends the most time on the ice (21:09 per game on average). 7 times he prevented opponents from changing the score.
