Before the Avtomobilist – Barys Match

Barys will kick off their first road series of the season in Yekaterinburg.

Avtomobilist has won three of their first five games this season. In their last game, Nikolai Zavarukhin’s team dominated Salavat Yulaev at home with a 6-1 victory. Brooks Macek scored twice, while Sergei Zborovsky, Alexey Byvaltsev, Curtis Valk, and Anatoly Golyshev each added a goal. Goalie Yevgeny Alikin made 28 saves. Zavarukhin noted that while the team played well overall, the match was still quite tense despite the scoreline.

Avtomobilist has six points and leads the Eastern Conference in goals scored (17). Their top scorer is Anatoly Golyshev (2+3), while Nick Ebert (2+2) ranks among the top eight most productive defensemen in the league.

Barys remains the only team without a win in the new season. On Friday, the Astana team fell 1-5 to Dinamo Minsk. Nikita Boyarkin made 48 saves, marking his second-highest career total in the KHL. Michael McLeod scored Barys' only goal, his first for the team. Adil Beketayev recorded his first assist of the season. Head coach David Nemirovsky commented that while some line combinations are beginning to gel, the team still needs to find the right balance across all four lines to secure a win.

Barys has earned just one point in their first four games. Michael McLeod (1+1) and Will Butcher (0+2) are the team's top performers so far. Batyrlan Muratov and Nathan Beaulieu remain injured. In Yekaterinburg, Barys has been joined by Snow Leopards' defensemen Beibarys Orazov and Aslan Zhusupbekov.
