Before the match: Barys vs Admiral

In the final home game of January, the team from Astana will host Admiral.

In the previous round, the Vladivostok side lost in Omsk to Avangard (2:5), suffering their ninth consecutive defeat. The goals were scored by Oskar Bulavchuk and Stepan Starkov. Ivan Kulbakov made 36 saves. Oleg Bratash noted that his team competes on equal terms with strong opponents in terms of play, but results are still lacking.

After 48 games, Admiral has 34 points. Before the trade deadline, the Sailors parted ways with several players, including leading scorer Daniil Gutik, Igor Geraskin, and Egor Petukhov, who moved to Spartak, Torpedo, and Sochi respectively. The roster was reinforced by goaltender Ivan Kulbakov, defenseman Semyon Ibragimov, and forwards Daniil Usmanov and Egor Chezganov. After Gutik’s departure, leadership responsibilities were taken on by Stepan Starkov (11+17). Defenseman Dmitry Deryabin and forward Alexander Darin are currently on the injured list.

Last Saturday, Barys suffered a dramatic road loss to Neftekhimik in Nizhnekamsk (2:3). The goals were scored by Semyon Simonov (his 10th goal of the season) and Max Willman (his 10th point of the season). In the final seconds of the game, the visitors appeared to equalize, but the referees disallowed the goal after ruling a kick by Michael Vecchione. Riley Walsh became the second player on the team to reach the 30-point mark (9+21). Adam Shil made 27 saves. Mikhail Kravets said the team needs to keep working and look for positives from this road trip.

The Kazakhstan side has 39 points after 51 games. Kirill Savitsky has been removed from the injured list and has been training with the main group for several days. Mason Morelli’s participation in the match is questionable.
