Barys kicks off their final home series of November with a game against the reigning Gagarin Cup champions, Metallurg.
In their last five matches, the team from Magnitogorsk has claimed four victories. In their most recent outing, Metallurg defeated Salavat Yulaev in Ufa in overtime (3:2). The goals were scored by Roman Kantserov, Robin Press, and Denis Zernov. Goaltender Alexander Smolin made 33 saves. Head coach Andrey Razin noted in a press conference that the pivotal moment of the game was when the team managed to kill off a five-minute penalty.
In 29 games, Metallurg has earned 31 points. Their leading scorer is defenseman Robin Press (2 goals, 15 assists). Forward Danila Yurov is currently on the injured list.
On Sunday, Barys secured their most productive victory of the season, defeating Sochi on the road (6:3). Kirill Savitsky scored twice, while Alikhan Omirbekov (1 goal, 1 assist) became the first player on the team to reach 10 points in the current championship. Nikita Setdikov, Kirill Panyukov, and Anton Burdasov also scored one goal each. Andrey Shutov, in his first victory since returning to Astana, made 32 saves. Danil Butenko registered his first career assist in the KHL. Head coach Galym Mambetaliyev remarked that scoring six goals should boost the team’s confidence.
The Kazakhstani team has earned 18 points in 27 games. Victor Antipin, Damir Zhafyarov, and Roman Starchenko remain on the injured list.
