Before the Game: Barys vs CSKA

Barys will conclude their short home stand with a matchup against CSKA Moscow.

In their previous game, the Army Men suffered a 1–2 road loss to Avangard in Omsk, snapping a three-game winning streak. The lone goal for the visitors was scored by team scoring leader Prokhor Poltapov (15+14). Dmitry Gamzin made 23 saves. Head coach Igor Nikitin noted that the hosts deserved the win and admitted his team was unable to maintain the required level of play throughout the entire game.

After 47 games, CSKA have collected 54 points. Gamzin, mentioned above, leads the KHL this season in goals-against average (1.74) and ranks second in the League in save percentage (93.2%). Defenseman Dmitry Samorukov and forwards Dmitry Buchelnikov and Danila Moiseev are currently sidelined with injuries.

On Thursday, Barys fired 36 shots on goal against Neftekhimik but were unable to beat Yaroslav Ozolin in a 0–1 loss. Adam Schil, in turn, stopped all 19 shots he faced. Head coach Mikhail Kravets called his team’s scoring form in recent games a “catastrophe” and urged his forwards to look within themselves to find the reasons for their poor finishing. The Kazakhstani club remains on 37 points after 47 games.

The Barys – CSKA game will start at 17:00 Astana time.
