The first stop for Barys during their final away series this November is set in Novosibirsk.
Sibir heads into the clash against the Astana team after losing four of their last five games. In their previous outing, Sibir suffered a 1-3 defeat to Metallurg on the road. Alexey Yakovlev scored the lone goal for his team, while Denis Kostin made 32 saves. Head coach Vadim Yepanchintsev noted that his team lacked active play, and the opponent appeared fresher for the first two periods.
Sibir currently has 25 points after 28 games. Their top scorer, Trevor Murphy (4+21), is also the most productive defenseman of this season. Yesterday, the club announced a trade, acquiring goaltender Dmitry Lozebnikov from Amur in exchange for forward Sergey Dubakin.
On Sunday, Barys missed out on a home win during their festive match against Avangard. Goals by Ivan Nikolishin (his 50th in the KHL) and Adil Beketayev, along with 41 saves by Andrei Shutov, earned the Astana team just one point as they fell in overtime, 2-3. Head coach Galym Mambetaliyev expressed concerns post-game about injuries to two defensemen, which increased the burden on other players.
The Kazakh team has 21 points after 30 games. Their leading scorer remains Alihan Omirbekov (5+6). Absent from the road trip are defenseman Viktor Antipin and forwards Damir Zhafyarov and Roman Starchenko, who are still recovering from injuries.
Just over a month ago, Barys and Sibir faced off in Novosibirsk, with the Kazakh team emerging victorious, 3-1.
The match between Sibir and Barys is scheduled to start at 5:30 PM Astana time.
The game will be broadcast live on Qazsport and KHL Prime channels.
