Yuri Mikhailis: “Every match was hotly contested”

The Head Coach of Barys, Yuri Mikhailis, commented on the final match of the PCRK and summed up the results of the tournament.

- It was a good game, worthy of the final. The opponent is reputable and disciplined. He caused us a lot of trouble today. But our team showed our best both in action and in the quality of passes; we performed a game task. There were a lot of moments in which we had to score. But, probably, the implementation is the main drawback in our team. Furthermore, the game of the opponents’ goalkeepers and defense did not allow us to do this.

- How do you rate the game of beginners?

- I am satisfied with how they joined the team, how they were accepted by the team. I am satisfied with what they show on the ice. Of course, these are not their best matches, but I am sure that they will show their best in the season.

- How did you react to the fact that the teams from the championship of Kazakhstan came to the tournament?

- We expected other teams. For certain reasons, the Riga Dynamo opted out of participation. Thanks to the management of Saryarka and Torpedo for responding. We needed these games as much as air to breathe. Every match was tightly contested. I am satisfied with this tournament.

- What do you say about Nikita Boyarkin’s game?

- Nikita Boyarkin is psychologically ready. This is the most important thing. He is ready to prove himself and fight for a place in the squad. His physical condition allows it. The games showed that he knows how to help out the team. Nikita wants to be the first-choice goalkeeper. So he will be, if he has set himself such a goal.

- Why didn’t Andrey Shutov play?

- That’s what the coaching staff decided. So far, the choice has fallen on Yoni Ortio and Nikita Boyarkin. We discussed this with Alexander Shimin (author’s note: goalkeeper coach) and watched how Andrey Shutov works and trains. Most likely, he will play in the upcoming matches in Belarus.
